Taylor Swift has done what no Disney song has ever done before. Her track “I Knew It, I Knew You” has debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the first time in history that a Disney song has entered the chart at the top spot. The achievement adds another historic milestone to Swift’s already record-breaking career.

The song appears on the soundtrack for Frozen III, the highly anticipated sequel to Disney’s billion-dollar animated franchise. Swift wrote and recorded the power ballad for the film, in which she voices a new character introduced in the third installment. The track features swelling orchestration and Swift’s signature emotional storytelling, following a narrator who always knew a relationship was destined to happen.

Disney and Swift have circled each other for over a decade. The singer famously voiced Audrey in the 2012 animated film The Lorax, but a full Disney Animation collaboration had never materialized until Frozen III. Sources say Disney executives pursued Swift for the project after hearing early demos that aligned perfectly with the film’s themes of destiny and self-discovery.

The track dropped alongside the film’s first trailer, which has since amassed over 200 million views across platforms. In the trailer, Swift’s character speaks directly to Elsa and Anna in a climactic moment, and her voice carries into the credits song that has become the film’s musical identity.

No Disney song had ever debuted at number one on the Hot 100. Iconic tracks like “Let It Go,” “A Whole New World,” and “Circle of Life” all climbed the charts gradually, with “Let It Go” peaking at number five in 2014. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Encanto peaked at number two in 2022 after weeks of viral momentum. Swift’s track bypassed the slow burn entirely and launched straight to the summit .

The song pulled in 42 million streams and 28,000 digital downloads in its first week of eligibility, according to early industry tracking. Radio airplay has already begun climbing, with pop and adult contemporary formats adding the track in heavy rotation.

Swifties and Disney adults have united around the release, with social media flooded by fans editing the song over scenes from previous Frozen films. Critics have praised the track as a natural fit for both Swift’s catalog and the franchise’s musical legacy. Rolling Stone called it “an instant addition to her pantheon of great love songs,” while Variety noted that “the marriage of Swift’s confessional writing and Disney’s orchestral grandeur feels inevitable in hindsight”.

The song also debuted at number one on the Digital Song Sales chart and number two on Streaming Songs. It marks Swift’s fifteenth career number-one single on the Hot 100, extending her lead as the solo artist with the most chart-toppers in history. Only The Beatles have more with twenty.

Frozen III hits theaters November 25, 2026. The soundtrack, featuring additional tracks from Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, is available now. Swift has not announced any live performances of the song, but fans are already speculating about a surprise appearance at the film’s Hollywood premiere.
