Star hints the story is “only just beginning” following dramatic climax in the Austrian Alps
July 3, 2025 — Nicole Kidman has opened up about the intense season finale of Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2, calling it “the beginning of something deeper” rather than a definitive end.
The second season of Hulu’s hit psychological drama wrapped up on July 2 with an emotionally charged finale set high in the Austrian Alps, where guests at Masha Dmitrichenko’s wellness retreat confront long-buried traumas through psychedelic therapy and raw confrontations.
Kidman, 57, who reprises her role as the enigmatic retreat leader Masha, said of the dramatic conclusion:
“It’s like it’s only just beginning.”
Masha vs. David: A Tense Showdown
The finale reached its emotional and ethical climax during a combative confrontation between Masha and billionaire David Sharpe, played by Mark Strong, 61. In a season filled with revelations, one of the most devastating came from Masha, who disclosed that her deceased daughter, Tatiana, was also David’s child.
Strong revealed:
“It’s a fascinating premise… Masha arranged this group knowing all of them were affected by David in some way.”
In the final episode, David claims he will withdraw his company from the weapons industry as an act of reparation. But when Masha uncovers his lie, she uses AI-generated video to expose him publicly — a digital reckoning that forces his hand.
Healing, Breakups, and New Beginnings
The finale tied up several character arcs with a mix of resolution and ambiguity:
• Wolfie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers, 32) and Tina (King Princess, 25) break up, but Tina reconnects with her love for music.
• Brian (Murray Bartlett, 53), a disgraced children’s TV host, parts ways with his infamous puppet and finds friendship with Agnes (Dolly de Leon, 55), a former nun.
• Victoria (Christine Baranski, 72) and Imogen (Annie Murphy, 38) reconcile as mother and daughter, with Imogen arranging a heartfelt meeting with Peter (Henry Golding, 37).
The Real McDonald’s Ending
The final scene sees Masha and David sitting tensely in a real McDonald’s just outside Berlin, which Kidman confirmed was an authentic location.
“Yeah, we absolutely were,” Nicole said.
“And yes, chocolate,” she added with a smile when asked about her milkshake.
Mark Strong added:
“Come lunchtime, everybody just tucked into the McDonald’s. It’s on a kind of estate outside of Berlin, like a drive pass near a motorway.”
Filming in the Alps
Filming took place across remote alpine regions, with Nicole praising the efforts of directors Jonathan Levine and Anthony Byrne in coordinating the ambitious production.
“We were definitely up in those Austrian Alps,” she confirmed.
What’s Next?
While Hulu has not officially announced a third season, Kidman’s comments strongly suggest that the Nine Perfect Strangers universe may continue — possibly diving deeper into Masha’s psychological maze and her morally complex tactics.
As Kidman puts it:
“It’s only just beginning.”
