The internet is divided as a viral Nicki Minaj deportation petition has crossed the 70,000-signature mark on January 1, 2026. The movement, which gained massive momentum over the New Year holiday, calls for the U.S. government to review the rapper’s residency status and consider her return to her native Trinidad and Tobago.

The petition, titled “Deport Nicki Minaj to Trinidad,” was sparked by what many former supporters describe as a “deep betrayal” of her original values. Critics point to recent controversial statements, including her “boys should just be boys” remark and her vocal support for Donald Trump, as evidence of a shift toward “harmful and outdated” rhetoric. The petition specifically highlights that Minaj, born Onika Tanya Maraj, moved to the U.S. at age five but is reportedly not a naturalized citizen, making her legal status a point of contention for activists.

While the Nicki Minaj deportation petition continues to trend, “The Barbz” have rushed to her defense, calling the movement “weaponized xenophobia” and “cancel culture gone too far.” Supporters of the rapper argue that her political views, however polarizing, are not legal grounds for deportation. As of this morning, neither Nicki Minaj nor U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have issued a formal statement regarding the campaign.
