Lizzo Says She’s ‘Made Peace’ With Public Perception After Harassment Lawsuits

Lizzo is opening up about her perspective after being accused of harassment and a hostile work environment in a series of lawsuits. In an interview on Sunday on TODAY with Willie Geist, the four-time Grammy winner said she had to accept that she can’t control how the public sees her. “I had to make peace with the fact that there’s a version of Lizzo that exists now that the world controls,” she said. “The world controls the narrative, and I don’t. But what I can control is who I really am”.

The Lizzo harassment lawsuits date back to August and September 2023, when three former backup dancers and a former wardrobe assistant filed separate suits. The wardrobe assistant’s case against Lizzo’s touring company was dismissed on September 1, 2026, with a judge ruling the alleged conduct, while “inappropriate and unprofessional,” fell under the “ordinary tribulations of the workplace”. The dancers’ lawsuit remains ongoing, though a fat-shaming claim was dismissed in December 2025.

Lizzo also addressed why she doesn’t feel the need to fight back against every claim. “I’m not a fighter, I’m a lover,” she said, adding that she’s realized the industry is a “headline game.” Instead of fighting false narratives, she focuses on what she’s proud of: “How many headlines can I have out there about the things that I’m doing that I’m proud of and that I actually did?”. She described the experience as “an opportunity for self-reflection” and learning to work on herself.
