Cristiano Ronaldo is facing disciplinary action from the Portuguese Football Federation following his departure from the national team camp. The federation announced that disciplinary proceedings were initiated on October 9, 2026, to determine whether Ronaldo’s actions on October 7 warranted further sanctions. The FPF has assigned “urgent nature” to the process.
The Cristiano Ronaldo disciplinary statement reads: “The initiation of disciplinary proceedings against Cristiano Ronaldo, by deliberation of the Non-Professional Section, of October 9, 2026, with the purpose of the investigation of any disciplinary relevance of the facts participated on October 7. Without prejudice to the automatic preventive suspension to which he was subject until the date of establishment, the non-automatic preventive suspension of the player was determined and the urgent nature was attributed to the process.”
Ronaldo previously addressed his departure from the camp, apologizing and acknowledging that disciplinary consequences could follow. He has also indicated that he remains willing to represent Portugal. The case is now under review, but the final punishment, if any, has not been confirmed. Ronaldo has not commented further since the federation’s announcement. Portugal’s next international fixtures are expected to proceed without him if a suspension is upheld.
