Khloe Kardashian is leading the online outrage after a red carpet interview with legendary music producer Babyface was abruptly cut short at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. The moment, which has since gone viral, sparked fury among fans and industry figures alike, including Kardashian, who called out the disrespectful treatment of the iconic artist.
In a tweet that quickly gained traction, Kardashian expressed her disbelief, stating, “This is so disrespectful how Babyface was treated in this interview. Babyface has had such a significant impact on the music industry, in sooo many ways. It’s maddening to see a LEGEND not get the respect and attention they deserve.” She continued, “He is a pioneer and deserves so much better than this.”
The incident unfolded when Babyface, known for producing over 26 number-one R&B hits throughout his career, was asked about his thoughts on women in the music industry by reporters Leslie Ambriz and Krysta Fauria. However, as Babyface began responding, one of the reporters spotted Chappell Roan, the “Pink Pony Club” singer, walking the carpet. The focus quickly shifted to Roan, and the interview with Babyface was abruptly cut short. In the viral clip, Babyface calmly remarks, “You go do that,” before the interview ends.
Kardashian wasn’t the only one upset by the treatment. Many fans and industry peers expressed their frustration on social media, with many praising Babyface’s professionalism in the face of disrespect. Kardashian also praised him for his composure, stating, “By the way, what a class act you are.”
In the aftermath, Fauria, one of the reporters involved, issued a public apology, saying, “I’m really sorry about interrupting Babyface earlier… There was a lot of commotion on the carpet, but I’m a big Babyface fan, as are we all. I really apologise.”
Meanwhile, Chappell Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Amstutz, made headlines during the Grammys for calling on record labels to offer a “liveable wage” and healthcare for rising artists. In her acceptance speech for Best New Artist, Roan passionately advocated for better treatment of artists, recalling her struggles as a young star without healthcare after being dropped by her label. Her remarks earned a standing ovation from many in the audience.
The Grammy night proved to be a whirlwind for both Babyface and Chappell Roan, with each making waves for different reasons—one for his enduring legacy in the music industry, and the other for speaking up about crucial issues affecting emerging talent.
