Ghanaian artist Gyakie has revealed the intense emotional toll of her early career in the music industry. Speaking on BBC Africa, the “Forever” hitmaker shared how the overwhelming pressure from fans and management often led her to tears during her early rise to fame.
Reflecting on the struggles, Gyakie admitted, “If I am pressured or shouted at, I am going to grab a tissue and cry. So I don’t like to be pressured and shouted at. At the beginning of my career, I would cry at home almost every three days because the pressure was too much. Especially when ‘Forever’ blew up. The expectations were high for me to come out with another hit song.”
Despite these early challenges, Gyakie has grown stronger over time, learning how to cope with the demands of the industry and social media criticism. With a dose of humor, she added, “It took me a while to not really let it get to me. But now I could see anything about me, where the person knows what he is saying is not true, I would be like, somebody should give me some water to drink because the country is already hard.”
From navigating the weight of fame to becoming one of Ghana’s leading female artists, Gyakie’s journey is a testament to her resilience. Her global hit, “Forever,” which boasts over 150 million streams, continues to highlight her immense talent and lasting impact on the music scene.
