Former NFL Pro Bowl defensive end and sportscaster Marcellus Wiley was arrested in Florida over the Fourth of July weekend on a domestic battery charge. Jail records show Wiley, 51, was booked into the Orange County Jail on July 4 and is being held without bond.

Details surrounding the alleged incident that led to the domestic battery charge have not been released. Wiley’s representatives have not yet commented on the arrest.

Wiley played 10 seasons in the NFL after being selected by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 1997 draft. He also suited up for the San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and Jacksonville Jaguars. His best season came in 2001 with the Chargers, when he recorded a career-high 13 sacks and earned his only Pro Bowl selection.

After retiring in 2006, the Columbia University graduate transitioned to broadcasting, becoming a familiar face on ESPN and later Fox Sports. He co-hosted SportsNation on ESPN and Speak For Yourself on FS1, building a reputation for his sharp commentary and Ivy League perspective.

The domestic battery arrest follows a string of sexual assault allegations that surfaced over the past year. In May 2026, four additional women accused Wiley of sexual assault, including a former ESPN production assistant who alleged Wiley assaulted her in a hotel room in 2009. Another accuser claims Wiley groomed her starting at age 13 while he played for the Buffalo Bills.

Those allegations joined three previous lawsuits filed against Wiley, all of which he has denied. In a May 2026 YouTube video, Wiley called the accusations “false” and claimed they were attempts at “assassination by accusation”. A hearing for the class-action lawsuit against Wiley and Columbia University was scheduled for May 12, 2026.

Wiley remains in custody as the domestic battery case moves forward. With a court hearing pending and multiple unresolved legal battles, the former NFL star’s legal troubles continue to mount. He is also facing a class-action lawsuit attempt from accusers who allege Columbia University failed to address rape complaints against him in the 1990s.
