Cardi B on Motherhood: “A New You Is Born”

Cardi B is getting real about motherhood, and her words are resonating with parents everywhere. In a candid new interview with Allure, the Grammy-winning rapper and mother of four opened up about how becoming a mom fundamentally transforms a person, calling it an instinct that requires no instruction manual.

“Something changes in you, and that’s all moms,” the 33-year-old said. “Even a fucking dog will change as soon as they become a mom. They don’t got to learn it. Just… a new you is born”.

For Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almánzar, the transition into motherhood felt less like learning and more like becoming. She spoke about watching her phone screen during the interview, where her children appeared in the background, a reminder that even in professional spaces, motherhood is always present.

Her perspective echoes something she’s said before. In previous interviews, she’s emphasized that motherly advice often misses the point. “So many people give you advice, but once it’s in there, that motherly instinct just comes out,” she once told a reporter. That instinct, she believes, is universal, spanning species, experience levels, and circumstances.

Motherhood doesn’t pause for a sold-out tour. Cardi B is currently in the middle of her Little Miss Drama Tour, a 35-show run supporting her second studio album Am I the Drama?. The tour launched in February, just three months after she gave birth to her fourth child, a son with ex Stefon Diggs.

Balancing it all requires constant problem-solving. Her daughter Kulture is in school “and her school don’t play that shit,” she said. Her son Wave needs time for extracurricular sports. And the tour bus? It smells like gasoline.

“So I just be like, How the fuck am I gonna make this shit fucking work?” she admitted.

Despite the chaos, Cardi B is playing the long game. When asked about her future legacy, she offered a vision that’s both humble and characteristically bold.

“I want to be the grandma that everybody come to the crib, and it’s like, ‘Yeah, my grandma was that bitch,’” she said.

It’s a line that captures everything about her approach to motherhood: unapologetic, loving, and rooted in creating something that lasts long after the spotlight fades.
