The Beckham family feud played out in plain sight again this weekend. Brooklyn Beckham ignored his mother, Victoria, on UK Mother’s Day, instead posting a gushing tribute to his mother-in-law, Claudia Heffner Peltz. The Brooklyn Beckham Mother’s Day snub marks the latest chapter in a public estrangement that began escalating in January.
While the rest of the Beckham clan flooded social media with warm messages for Victoria, the 27-year-old eldest son shared a photo with Nicola Peltz Beckham and Claudia, celebrating her 71st birthday. “Happy birthday to the best mother-in-law,” he wrote. “Love you so much and hope you had the most amazing day”.
David Beckham led the tributes, posting a black-and-white throwback photo of Victoria during pregnancy. “Happy Mother’s Day to the most amazing mummy,” he wrote. “You are an inspiration in all the ways a mum should be to our 4 amazing children. We love you so much, and I’m so thankful for the family we have created”.
Harper Beckham, 14, shared her own heartfelt message. “Happy Mother’s Day to the best mum ever,” she wrote. “Thank you for always being there for me, supporting me and putting up with me even on my worst days” .
Cruz Beckham posted an adorable throwback snap with his mother. Even Romeo, who has kept a lower profile, joined in the public celebration. Victoria responded to David’s post with a simple but warm: “I love you all so much” .
Brooklyn’s absence from this family moment wasn’t accidental. He lives in Los Angeles with Nicola, where Mother’s Day falls in May, but the timing of his tribute to Claudia, posted as the UK woke up to Mothering Sunday, felt deliberate to observers tracking the feud.
His post celebrated a birthday that had actually occurred three days earlier, adding another layer to the perceived slight . Nicola also honored her mother, writing: “Happy Birthday to my mom! The pure fact that i get to call you mom makes me truly, the luckiest ever”.
Brooklyn’s estrangement from his parents became impossible to ignore in January when he posted a six-page Instagram statement filled with explosive claims.
He alleged his mother cancelled making Nicola’s wedding dress “in the eleventh hour,” forcing her to urgently find a replacement . He claimed his parents pressured him to sign away rights to his name before the wedding, and that when he refused, “they have never treated me the same since”.
The wedding itself became a flashpoint. Brooklyn said Victoria “hijacked” his first dance with Nicola, dancing “very inappropriately on me in front of everyone” while he felt “more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life”.
He wrote about his parents prioritizing “Brand Beckham” over authentic relationships. “Family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media,” he stated.
Brooklyn has made clear he doesn’t want reconciliation. In January, he wrote: “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life” .
Sources say he and Nicola requested that any family communication go through lawyers, and they were “disheartened” when his parents publicly wished him a happy birthday earlier this month, violating what they saw as an agreement.
Hours after his Mother’s Day snub, Brooklyn attended his godfather Elton John’s Oscars viewing party with Nicola, cutting a carefree figure in a black suit while she commanded attention in a form-fitting gown.
The rift shows no signs of healing. Brooklyn has reportedly maintained contact with his grandfather Ted and step-grandmother Hilary but remains estranged from his parents. His January statement captured his current state of mind: “For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared”.
For now, the Beckhams celebrate milestones in two separate circles, one in London with Victoria, David, and their younger children: another in Los Angeles with Brooklyn, Nicola, and the Peltz family. Mother’s Day simply became the latest reminder.
