Taylor Swift is adding another historic honor to her résumé. CBS and MTV announced Monday that Swift will receive the first-ever MTV VMA Artist Director Honors at the 2026 Video Music Awards, recognizing artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced visual storytelling.
The Taylor Swift Artist Director Honors celebrates a sustained and influential body of directorial work. Swift made her solo directorial debut in 2020 with “The Man,” winning Best Direction at the VMAs that year. She followed it with All Too Well: The Short Film, which won Video of the Year, Best Longform Video, and Best Direction at the VMAs, plus a Grammy for Best Music Video. She has since directed videos for “Cardigan,” “Willow,” “Anti-Hero,” “Bejeweled,” “Karma,” “Fortnight,” “The Fate of Ophelia,” and “Opalite”.
Swift enters the September 27 ceremony with nine nominations, including Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia.” She holds the record for most VMA wins by any artist with 30, and her four Best Direction wins are the most in the category’s history. The 2026 MTV VMAs air live Sunday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS, MTV, and Paramount+.
