Takeoff’s Parents Battle Over Wrongful Death Settlement

The parents of late Migos rapper Takeoff are now locked in a bitter legal fight over the wrongful death settlement from his 2022 murder. His mother, Titania Davenport, and father, Kenneth Ball, are disputing how the money should be divided and which court should decide the matter.

Davenport argues she was the rapper’s primary caregiver throughout his life, raising him as a single parent from birth and providing nearly all his financial support until adulthood. She claims that after Takeoff achieved success, he supported her by paying “most if not all of her expenses,” including purchasing a home and vehicles for her. She also alleges Ball was “barely present” in their son’s life, providing “negligible financial support and effectively no emotional support”. She says Takeoff never supported his father financially.

Ball argues he is still entitled to half of the settlement money, regardless of his involvement in his son’s life. He also wants the dispute resolved in Texas, where the wrongful death lawsuit was originally filed. Davenport, however, argues that Georgia, where the probate case is being administered, is the proper venue now that the Texas case has been settled.

Takeoff, whose real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, was killed on November 1, 2022, at age 28. He was shot outside a Houston-area bowling alley while attending a gathering with his uncle and Migos partner, Quavo. A man named Patrick Xavier Clark has been charged in connection with his death and is expected to stand trial later this year.

The settlement amount remains confidential. A judge has yet to rule on either the division of funds or the venue dispute.
