Olivia Jean has filed for divorce from rock star Jack White after four years of marriage. Court documents obtained this week reveal that Jean is citing “inappropriate marital conduct” in her petition, a legal ground for divorce in Tennessee. The filing states that White’s conduct “makes further cohabitation unsafe and improper,” though no specific details about the alleged behavior were included in the paperwork. The Jack White divorce has drawn attention given the couple’s unconventional and highly publicized wedding in 2022.
Jean, a musician signed to White’s Third Man Records label, submitted the divorce petition on June 3 in Nashville, listing that same day as the couple’s date of separation. The filing also reveals Jean is financially dependent on White, requesting spousal support, continued health insurance coverage, and that she remain the beneficiary on his life insurance policy. The estranged couple, who have no children together, were last seen publicly together in New York City in April.
White and Jean’s romance began in 2009 when she left a demo CD at one of his concerts . They started dating in 2014 and built a friendship before romance took hold. Their April 2022 wedding was as spontaneous as the relationship was slow-burning. White proposed to Jean onstage at Detroit’s Masonic Temple Theatre during a performance of the White Stripes song “Hotel Yorba”. After receiving her father’s blessing from the audience, White’s Third Man Records co-founder Ben Swank officiated the ceremony right there on the stage.
Jean later called the impromptu nuptials “the best experience of my life,” noting that no amount of planning could compare. The marriage was made legally official the following December in Nashville. Just months later, White named Jean in his acceptance speech when the White Stripes entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The phrase “inappropriate marital conduct” is a standard legal term used in Tennessee divorce filings, legally defined as “cruel and inhuman treatment or conduct” that makes living together unsafe. White, who was last seen posting about Jean on Instagram in April 2025, has not publicly commented on the filing. The White Stripes frontman has been married twice before, to bandmate Meg White from 1996 to 2000, and to model Karen Elson from 2005 to 2013. White and Elson share two children.
