Corey Feldman is back home after a terrifying mid-air medical emergency sent him to the hospital, with doctors ultimately determining he was suffering from a severe case of food poisoning.
The Stand by Me and Goonies actor, 54, was released on Tuesday after spending the night under observation. His publicist confirmed that an MRI and a battery of tests revealed “a really bad case of food poisoning”. Initial fears that the pain could be related to pancreatitis or gallstones were quickly dispelled.
“Having food poisoning on a plane was a nightmare, but Corey is very grateful for all of the love and well wishes!” his publicist said. In a statement, the actor added that he “looks forward” to recovering in time for the release of his new single, What Am I Here 4, on June 22.
The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon as Feldman was flying from Chicago to Los Angeles. He had just wrapped a Midwest tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of the classic film Stand by Me with co-stars Jerry O’Connell and Wil Wheaton.
During the flight, Feldman began experiencing severe symptoms, prompting a doctor who happened to be on board to examine him. Upon landing at LAX, paramedics were waiting at the gate and rushed him to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed they responded to the scene, transporting the actor for medical care . While the scare was certainly frightening, the diagnosis of food poisoning came as a relief to fans and the actor alike. In a social media post, Feldman thanked fans for their support, noting that while the event was “def scary,” he was confident he would be okay.
