The legal war over Jimmy Buffett’s estate is turning ugly. According to court documents, the late singer’s son Cameron and daughter Sarah Delaney Buffett were asked questions about their mother, Jane Buffett, during discovery—specifically about ketamine and marijuana. The questions were raised by Jimmy’s former financial advisor, Richard Mozenter, as part of the battle over control of the estate, reportedly worth an estimated $275 million.
The Jimmy Buffett estate legal war documents show Cameron and Delaney were asked to turn over any documents or communications about Jane’s prescription or non-prescription drugs, “including but not limited to ketamine and weed,” from August 2023 to the present. In their response, the Buffett kids called the request overboard, saying it sought “harassing documents” that have nothing to do with the case at hand.
Mozenter sued Jane over the estate, and Jane countersued Richard. In recent filings, Jane claimed Richard was blocking her from viewing accounting records she needed to figure out next steps. Jimmy Buffett died on September 1, 2023, at age 76 after a four-year battle with Merkel cell skin cancer. The estate dispute has dragged on for nearly three years, with both sides trading accusations over control of the legendary musician’s assets.
