Professional wrestler Joe Doering has died at just 44 years old after a courageous decade-long fight with brain cancer. The TNA and All Japan Pro Wrestling star passed away peacefully on June 26, surrounded by his family.
Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling announced the loss in a heartfelt statement: “At 9:13 AM today, June 26, our brother Joe Doering passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. Though his time on this earth lasted only 44 years, Joe packed a thousand years’ worth of living into every one of them”.
Doering was first diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2016 and underwent surgery to have the mass removed. The cancer returned in 2022, requiring another procedure. Late last year, Doering was diagnosed with a third brain tumor and entered hospice care earlier this month.
His 2016 diagnosis occurred just before he was scheduled to wrestle at Bound for Glory, TNA’s biggest show of the year. Doering continued wrestling through treatment, returning to the ring years later. In 2015, he founded the charity Doering’s Dough, donating pizza to the food insecure.
Doering competed for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, where he found significant success. He also had popularity in All Japan Pro Wrestling, winning titles in both promotions . He entered professional wrestling in 2004 and had a brief stint in WWE’s developmental Florida Championship Wrestling under the ring name Drake Brewer in 2010.
Doering is survived by his wife, Lindsay, his family, and “countless friends and devoted fans around the world who will forever remember his strength, courage, and spirit,” the statement read.
