Verity is off to a massive start. The film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel has earned $62.5 million at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend, making back 150% of its $40 million budget in just 48 hours. The Verity box office performance ranks as the third No. 1 opening of 2026, behind this summer’s blockbusters The Odyssey and The Devil Wears Prada 2.
The film stars Anne Hathaway as Verity Crawford, a famous author who hires a ghostwriter (Dakota Johnson) to finish her book series after a mysterious accident leaves her unable to write. It was directed by Michael Showalter and adapted from Hoover’s 2018 novel, which became a viral sensation years after its initial release. The book has sold millions of copies worldwide and spent months on bestseller lists.
Verity joins a strong year for adult-skewing theatrical releases, following hits like Heart of the Beast and The Devil Wears Prada 2. With a modest $40 million budget and a built-in fanbase, the film is on track for a profitable theatrical run. It is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
