Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has slammed the match officials after his side’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday night.
Maguire’s Controversial Winner
The Foxes took the lead at Old Trafford through Bobby De Cordova-Reid in the first half. However, United responded in the second half, with Joshua Zirkzee equalizing before Harry Maguire headed in a stoppage-time winner.
Replays suggested Maguire was offside when Bruno Fernandes delivered the 93rd-minute free-kick, but with no VAR in use at this stage of the competition, the goal stood.
Van Nistelrooy: “We Lost in Offside Timeâ€
Frustrated by the decision, Van Nistelrooy told ITV Sport:
“We are not defeated in Fergie time, we are defeated in offside time.â€
The Dutchman expressed his disappointment, saying:
“This wasn’t necessary. If we had VAR, they check inches, but this was half a metre offside—clear as day. That was hard to take because my team deserved at least a draw.â€
