Usher admits he has nothing negative to say about Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, and Diddy returns the love

Usher is making his stance clear. In a recent interview with Forbes, the eight-time Grammy winner addressed the elephant in the room: his longtime relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs, the music mogul now serving federal prison time. Instead of distancing himself, Usher leaned in with a defense rooted in decades of personal history.

“I don’t have anything negative to say about Sean Combs,” Usher told journalist Jabari Young. He added that his own experience with Diddy bears little resemblance to the public narrative that has unfolded in recent years. “My experience was not what the world has seen and how he’s been, you know, misrepresented.”

The connection between the two artists runs deep. In 1994, a teenage Usher moved into Diddy’s home, a formative period that shaped the young artist’s career. Diddy later served as an executive producer on Usher’s self-titled debut album, cementing a mentorship that has spanned more than three decades.

Usher acknowledged that Diddy is not without flaws but argued that his contributions to music deserve recognition independent of his legal troubles. “Certain people are prosecuted and maybe not recognized for the greatness that they offer,” he said. The remarks arrive as Diddy appeals the four-year sentence he received following his 2025 conviction.

Through his spokesperson Juda Engelmayer, Diddy responded to Usher’s comments with warmth. “I’ve always had love and respect for Usher,” the statement read. “I appreciate his words and everything he’s achieved.”

The exchange has sparked fresh conversation about loyalty, legacy, and whether an artist’s body of work can, or should, be separated from their personal conduct. For now, Usher has chosen his side. And Diddy, from behind bars, has returned the gesture.
