Türkiye’s official submission for the 2025 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category, Life (original title: Hayat), premiered in New York at the Turkish House. Directed by Zeki Demirkubuz, the film captivated an audience of cinema enthusiasts, industry professionals, and media members during its screening on Friday.
The event drew notable figures, including the director himself, lead actor Cem Davran, and several cast members. Idil Bilgen, the winner of Miss Türkiye 2024, also graced the occasion. Muhittin Ahmet Yazal, Türkiye’s Consul General in New York, expressed his appreciation for the film’s producers and cast, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.
Following the screening, Demirkubuz and Davran engaged with journalists and guests during a lively Q&A session, further discussing the film’s themes and production process.
Life had already been showcased earlier in November at the Hollywood-Turkish Film and Drama Days at Sony Studios in Los Angeles, thanks to the efforts of Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
As Türkiye’s official Oscar contender, Life now sets its sights on the prestigious international recognition of the 2025 Academy Awards.
