Nigerian music queen Tiwa Savage is reflecting on one of the most personal and challenging chapters of her career—recording music while pregnant.

In a candid conversation on Afrobeats Intelligence, the award-winning singer revealed how her pregnancy journey directly impacted her vocal abilities while working on her 2015 album ‘R.E.D’.

“I was pregnant when I recorded R.E.D,” she said. “I would be in the studio crying with my big belly. It was a struggle to record the album.”

Tiwa shared that the changes in her body affected her vocal range, forcing her to adjust the keys of some of the songs on the album.

“I changed the key of some of the songs in the album because being pregnant affected how I could hit some notes,” she admitted.

The Somebody’s Son crooner also revealed a touching behind-the-scenes detail about her time at Mavin Records, where she was the first artist on the label to become a mother.

“I was the first person to have a baby in Mavin. So whenever they noticed my energy was going down, Don Jazzy would tell them to get me my cravings, which were eggs and bread,” she recalled, laughing.

Tiwa Savage signed to Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records in 2012 and helped define the label’s golden era before moving to Universal Music Group in 2019.

Her story shines a light on the often-unspoken physical and emotional challenges female artists face—proving once again that Tiwa is not just a star, but a trailblazer in the Afrobeats industry.
