Two of Hollywood’s biggest names are joining forces for an intergalactic animated adventure. Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are set to star in Illumination’s new animated feature Not Alone, scheduled for release in April 2027. The film marks Chalamet’s first-ever voice role in a feature-length animated movie. The official poster has been released, teasing a whimsical cosmic romance with a distinctly Illumination flavor.
Chalamet voices Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet life alone. Gomez plays Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist developing the world’s first plant-fueled rocket. When the two are brought together to prepare for the rocket’s inaugural launch, sparks fly immediately, though neither is particularly skilled at romance.
Complications arise when three tiny, adorable aliens named Dunk, Welly, and Shirm take refuge in Joe’s home. The trio is on the run from Zandro, a zealous but inept interplanetary law enforcement officer. They determine that Fran’s rocket may be their only way home.
The supporting cast is packed with talent. Dunk, Welly, and Shirm are voiced by renowned British comedic actors Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou, while two-time Emmy winner Brett Goldstein voices Officer Zandro. Oscar winner Allison Janney and Emmy winner Lamorne Morris also join the cast.
The film is directed by Eric Guillon, co-director of Despicable Me 3 and a longtime Illumination designer, alongside Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val . Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri produces.
Not Alone arrives at a strong moment for the studio, which recently released Minions & Monsters and the record-shattering Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The film opens in theaters on April 16, 2027.
With Chalamet’s animation debut, Gomez’s vocal talents, and Illumination’s signature charm, Not Alone is shaping up to be one of 2027’s most anticipated animated releases. Love, laughter, and a little chaos from outer space await.
