Khaby Lame, the TikTok sensation who skyrocketed to fame without saying a single word, just added another major title to his name—UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. The 24-year-old influencer, known for his hilarious reaction videos, returned to his roots in Senegal on Friday to accept the honor and deliver an inspiring message to young people.
Lame, who boasts over 162 million followers, found success after being fired from his factory job during the pandemic. Instead of giving up, he turned his extra time into a career—one that made him the world’s most-followed TikToker. Now, he wants to use his platform to create real change.
“It’s a true honor to be appointed as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador,” Lame shared. “From fearing poverty as a child to losing my job during COVID, I know firsthand that every child can thrive when given the chance.”
His appointment comes as Senegal faces an ongoing youth employment crisis, with 90% of young people working informal jobs and many risking their lives to migrate in search of a better future. Lame, who moved to Italy as an infant but only gained citizenship at 20, urged his fellow Senegalese youth to never give up.
“I tell them to dream big,” he said. “Even if people say you can’t reach your goals, try your best to accomplish them.”
Lame wrapped up his UNICEF appointment after a four-day visit to Senegal, where he met young changemakers making a difference in their communities. His journey—from factory worker to global star—is proof that even the simplest ideas can change lives. And now, he’s using his influence to help others do the same.
