Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while director Matt Reeves deals with a personal matter. Sources confirmed the pause to The Hollywood Reporter, and DC Studios issued a statement to Deadline, which first broke the news. “Production on ‘The Batman Part II’ has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” a DC Studios spokesperson said. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
The Batman Part II pause news comes as the sequel was gearing up for production. Robert Pattinson is set to return as Bruce Wayne, alongside Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle. The film has faced multiple delays since it was first announced, moving from an original October 2025 release date to October 1, 2027. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has previously said the script was complete and that Reeves was working on the film.
No details about the family matter have been released, and no new production timeline has been announced. Reeves has kept details about the sequel under wraps, though he has said it will continue the story established in 2022’s The Batman and its spinoff series The Penguin. The pause is expected to be temporary. Neither Reeves nor Pattinson has commented publicly.
