T-Pain is explaining the reasoning behind his blockbuster 2025 catalog sale. The six-time Grammy winner sold his publishing catalog and select master rights to HarbourView Equity Partners for a rumored $100 million, and he’s making it clear it wasn’t about a quick payday.
In a candid Twitch livestream, T-Pain opened up about the music industry’s seismic shift. “When streaming started, nobody came to any artist and said, ‘Hey, we’re about to put your s— on streaming platforms. How much do you want your music to cost?'” he said. The math didn’t work. Artists went from earning a dollar per song to just $0.003 per play, and that value keeps dropping.
That math became the deciding factor. “You think I want to leave that to my kids?” he asked. He shares three children, daughter Lyriq and sons Muziq and Kaydnz, with wife Amber Najm. The decision was blunt: “I’m not leaving my kids’ future in the hands of the music industry at all”.
When HarbourView pitched the deal, they framed it in terms T-Pain couldn’t ignore. “Look, here’s how much you’re making per year off of this. We’re going to give you a hundred years’ worth of money right here all at once,” he recalled on Club Shay Shay. His response? “Okay”.
