Tom Cruise’s daughter, Suri, has officially dropped the “Cruise” from her name. According to Pennsylvania records, the 20-year-old daughter of Tom and Katie Holmes registered to vote under the name Suri Noelle in October 2024 during her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University. A source said that Suri and Tom have been estranged since she was 7 years old. Page Six was the first to confirm the name change, noting that Pennsylvania requires residents to register to vote using their legal name.
Suri had already been using the name “Noelle” publicly before making the legal change. She used the name for her June 2024 high school graduation from LaGuardia High School in New York City, where the ceremony pamphlet listed her as Suri Noelle. At the time, a source told Page Six that Suri was “showing praise for her mother” by using Noelle, Holmes’ middle name, while also wanting to “avoid the paparazzi” and establish her “own identity” as she prepared to start college. She also used Noelle in playbills for high school productions including Head Over Heels and The Addams Family: A New Musical.
Suri has reportedly not had a relationship with her father since 2013 . In a 2013 deposition tied to a defamation lawsuit, Cruise pushed back on suggestions he’d abandoned Suri, saying, “The assertion that I ‘abandoned’ Suri after my divorce is patently false. I have in no way cut Suri out of my life, whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise”. He also stated that they “spoke on the phone nearly every day”. However, Cruise skipped Suri’s 2024 high school graduation, instead attending a Taylor Swift concert in London while filming a Mission: Impossible sequel.
Since her parents’ divorce, Suri has remained close with her mother, with the pair frequently spotted around New York City together before Suri’s move to Pittsburgh for college. Holmes has admitted in recent years that she and Suri “kind of grew up together”. The name change marks a significant step as Suri continues to forge her own path in the world, both personally and professionally.
