Udinese and Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is preparing for surgery after suffering a significant injury to his right wrist. The club confirmed on Saturday that Okoye tore his scapholunate ligament during a match, a crucial wrist ligament requiring immediate surgical intervention.
The injury means Okoye will miss Udinese’s critical upcoming game against Monza, with concerns that his recovery could sideline him for months. While standard recovery for such injuries ranges between 8-12 weeks, severe cases can extend up to eight months.
Okoye’s absence is a major blow to Udinese, where he has been a standout performer this season. In 14 Serie A appearances, he has made 42 saves, ranking among the league’s top four goalkeepers. His resilience and skill have earned him respect since joining Udinese from Watford, where limited opportunities led him to seek a fresh start in Italy.
Okoye’s last game was a tough 2-0 loss to Genoa, where he showcased his abilities with three critical saves. Fans and teammates will undoubtedly miss his contributions as he begins his recovery journey.
