Stefon Diggs is coming home. The free-agent wide receiver has agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $12 million with the Washington Commanders, marking a return to his Maryland roots as he joins a rising offense led by third-year quarterback Jayden Daniels.
The move gives the Commanders a proven veteran presence opposite Terry McLaurin. Diggs, who turns 33 this year, is coming off a solid campaign with the New England Patriots, where he recorded 1,013 receiving yards and four touchdowns while helping the team reach Super Bowl LX. The team released him in March, but the two-time All-Pro remained determined to prove he still has gas in the tank.
He’ll now catch passes from Daniels, a rising star entering his third NFL season. The Commanders had a clear need for receiver depth after Deebo Samuel departed earlier this offseason, and Diggs slots in as a reliable option who can still stretch the field.
His arrival in Washington comes after a turbulent year off the field. In May, Diggs was acquitted on charges of felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault involving his former private chef, with a jury deliberating less than two hours before clearing him. The NFL later closed its personal conduct investigation without issuing a suspension.
Diggs still faces an ongoing civil legal battle with a male accuser who claims he was drugged and sexually assaulted in 2023, allegations Diggs has consistently denied. With the Commanders now in the picture, he’ll have a chance to focus on football—and prove he’s still one of the league’s most dangerous receivers.
