Nigerian singer Oludipe David, popularly known as Spyro, has publicly accused talent manager Ubi Franklin of scamming him by falsely invoking Afrobeat star Davido’s name.
During a recent appearance on The Link Up podcast, the Who’s Your Guy crooner detailed the incident, alleging that Ubi approached him to perform at an event, claiming Davido would pay him $5,000 after the performance.
Spyro recalled raising concerns about the payment before taking the stage, but Ubi allegedly rushed him to perform by having the MC announce his appearance. After the performance, Spyro said he confronted Ubi, only to learn that Davido was unaware of the arrangement.
“I asked Ubi, ‘Where’s the money you said Davido promised?’ And then he admitted, ‘No, don’t tell David. He’s not the one that asked you to perform,’” Spyro recounted. “It was a broad daylight scam, bro!”
Spyro further revealed his standard performance fee is N20 million, adding that Ubi’s actions undermined his worth as an artist.
The shocking allegation has stirred conversations online, with fans calling for clarity from Ubi Franklin regarding the situation. Neither Ubi nor Davido has issued an official statement as of now.
