Shay Martin has remarried, just over one year after her husband Tanner Martin died from stage 4 colon cancer at age 30. The influencer announced the news in an Instagram video on Sunday, Aug. 2, sharing clips of her new husband proposing, their wedding, and moments of him bonding with her daughter AmyLou.
In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Shay says she’s “grateful” for everyone who has followed her story. She reveals that Tanner himself had hoped she would find love again. “One of the greatest hopes Tanner had was that I would find someone who would love AmyLou as his own and honor the life Tanner and I built together,” she shares.
Shay emphasizes that her new husband has never asked her to leave Tanner behind. “He honors my memory with Tanner; he honors Tanner. He celebrates the love that I had and have for Tanner, and he loves AmyLou the way Tanner would want AmyLou to be loved”. She acknowledges that while she once thought she would never remarry, she eventually “decided that there is enough love to give. You can never run out of love”.
“Moving forward is not the same as moving on,” Shay says, a powerful reminder that grief and new love can coexist . She concludes with a message to her followers: “Love does not erase love. Tanner will always be AmyLou’s dad, and he will always be an important part of our family and our story”.
