Sharon Stone is embracing a drug-free life. The “Casino” star revealed to Variety that she decided to stop taking her stroke medication against her doctor’s orders, and then quit marijuana as well. She described withdrawing from the medication as brutal: “It was like going off of f***ing heroin. I was sick as a frigging dog for four and a half months.” Once she got off the medication, she turned her attention to weed and got sick again.
Stone believes the cannabis she was using contained additives that made quitting harder. “They put so much stuff in it. It’s not like you’re pulling it out of the ground anymore,” she explained. She visited her neurologist, who told her, “Sharon, I’ve had people dying in the emergency room from marijuana.” The 67-year-old actress suffered a massive stroke and a nine-day brain hemorrhage in 2001, which required her to relearn how to walk, talk, and read.
Now, Stone says she has reclaimed her life. She’s painting, returning to modeling, and planning a Broadway debut. She told Variety she has “so much more mental capacity and so much more a clear connection to my creativity.” Stone is also open to romance again after her split from fiancé R’el Dade, saying, “I’m living. I’m optimistic.”
