Serena Williams will make her Wimbledon return in women’s doubles alongside her sister Venus after the All England Club awarded the tennis legends a wild card into the Championships. The tournament begins on June 29.
The Williams sisters have won six Wimbledon doubles titles together, with their last triumph coming in 2016. They have claimed 14 Grand Slam doubles titles as a pair overall.
The Serena Williams Wimbledon return comes after nearly four years away from professional tennis. The 44-year-old made her competitive comeback earlier this month at Queen’s Club in London, where she won her opening doubles match with partner Victoria Mboko before the Canadian was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury.
Since then, Williams has continued her grass-court preparations at the Berlin Open, partnering with Karolina Muchova. The seven-time Wimbledon singles champion is taking things “a day at a time” as she eases back into competition.
Venus, who turns 46 on Wednesday, has continued competing sporadically. The pair last played together at the 2022 U.S. Open, where they lost their opening match, their first doubles outing together in four-and-a-half years. Their history at Wimbledon runs deep; their first two doubles titles at the All-England Club, in 2000 and 2002, also came as wild cards.
Neither sister has yet been confirmed for the women’s singles draw, though one wildcard spot remains open. The sisters, who won Olympic gold together at the All-England Club in 2012, now have the chance to add another chapter to their storied Wimbledon legacy.
