Actress and singer Selena Gomez has shared an emotional video expressing heartbreak over the deportation of Mexicans following Donald Trump’s recent crackdown on illegal immigration. In the now-deleted Instagram clip, the Emilia Perez star, who is of Mexican descent, broke into tears while addressing the plight of deported families and children.

“I just wanted to say that I am so sorry. All my people are getting attacked – and children,” Gomez said tearfully. “They don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything I promise.”

Trump’s Immigration Crackdown

This comes as Trump, who was inaugurated last week as the 47th U.S. President, declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border. His administration has resumed the controversial “Remain in Mexico” policy, requiring asylum-seekers to stay in Mexico while awaiting their U.S. court hearings. Additionally, Trump has vowed to increase deportations and has dispatched troops to the southern border.

Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar, responded harshly to Gomez’s video, telling Fox News: “If they don’t like it, then go to Congress and change the law. We’re gonna make our community safer… No apologies. We’re moving forward.”

Selena’s Advocacy Sparks Conversation

Though Gomez has since removed the video, her tearful plea struck a chord with fans and immigrant advocates alike. Many praised her for using her platform to shine a light on the struggles of deported families, while others criticized her for appearing emotional without suggesting concrete solutions.

Gomez, 32, stars in the Netflix musical thriller Emilia Perez, which explores themes of identity and transformation. The film, co-starring Zoe Saldana, has been widely acclaimed and earned 11 Oscar nominations, making it the second-most-nominated title this year.

As the immigration debate intensifies under Trump’s administration, Selena’s advocacy adds a personal and emotional layer to the ongoing conversation about the human cost of border policies.
