Ginny & Georgia might be one of Netflix’s most buzz-worthy shows, but even series star Scott Porteradmits he never expected the drama to become such a breakout hit.

The 45-year-old actor, who plays Mayor Paul Randolph on the show, recently opened up about its unexpected success and how grateful he is for the fans who made it all possible.

“We never expected the show to be a hit the way that it is — and it’s all because of you all. So thank you,” Porter told Us Weekly.

“An Infinite Well of Stories”

Porter credits the show’s ongoing momentum to creator Sarah Lampert, saying she’s full of ideas to keep the series going strong.

“Sarah is an infinite well of stories. I’m sure we could spin this thing for an awful long time,” he said.

“It’s up to Netflix on whether or not we continue on.”

So far, Ginny & Georgia has been renewed through season 4, and Porter says the wild twists and emotional depth keep him on his toes.

Playing Paul Isn’t Easy

Despite his years of acting experience, Porter admits portraying Mayor Paul Randolph hasn’t always come easy — especially with the heavy emotional arcs in recent episodes.

“These scenes… my No. 1 word for this season and for me filling the shoes of Paul is intimidating,” he confessed.

“I wasn’t sure if I could keep up with our two leads who are so incredible. When they’re asking Paul to reach these emotional depths, falling apart in front of our eyes and letting a little bit of his inner darkness out, I was intimidated.”

What He Wants in Season 4

Looking ahead to season 4, Scott is hopeful viewers will get to see a more complex, resilient side of Paul emerge.

“There are parts of Paul we still don’t understand and we haven’t seen,” he explained.

“He was elected mayor before Georgia ever walked into his life. I’d love to see that fight, that wit, that charm come back a little bit in season four.”

Whether or not the next season brings back the old Paul, one thing’s for sure — Scott Porter is ready to dive deeper into one of his most challenging roles yet.
