A Glee reboot is officially underway. In an interview with ETNow, Ryan Murphy revealed the project is in its early stages of development. “I just finished the script an hour ago,” he said. “I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members.”
The Glee reboot news comes 11 years after the show’s final season aired on Fox. Murphy didn’t reveal which cast members he’s spoken with, what the script’s premise is, or whether the reboot will be a continuation, a revival, or a reimagining of the original series. The original Glee ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2015 and launched the careers of Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, and Darren Criss, among others. It also became a cultural phenomenon, earning 32 Emmy nominations and producing multiple chart-topping soundtracks.
The show faced renewed scrutiny in recent years following the deaths of cast members Cory Monteith in 2013, Mark Salling in 2018, and Naya Rivera in 2020. Murphy has spoken about the grief of losing so many people connected to the series. No network or streaming platform has been announced, and no timeline for the project has been confirmed. Murphy’s other commitments include multiple projects for Netflix and FX.
