Rupert Grint is heading back to the wizarding world. The actor, who played Ron Weasley in all eight Harry Potter films, will reprise the role on Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for a 17-week run beginning February 2, 2027.
“I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life,” Grint said in a statement. “There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new”.
The play catches up with Harry, Ron, and Hermione 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with Ron and Hermione now married and sending their daughter to Hogwarts. Grint is the second actor from the original film series to join the Broadway production, following Tom Felton’s run as Draco Malfoy, which ends on January 3, 2027, one month before Grint begins. Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said Grint’s return “creates a powerful bridge between the story audiences first fell in love with and the story of family, legacy and the passage of time”.
