The decades-long war over the infamous 2007 sex tape just escalated to a felony level. Ray J is accusing Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner of “completely lying about everything” in sworn court declarations, directly challenging the mother-daughter duo to face perjury charges. The singer’s explosive response comes after Kardashian and Jenner filed formal denials under oath, insisting they had no role in releasing the tape that launched a billion-dollar empire.
In declarations filed March 10 in Los Angeles Superior Court, both women addressed Ray J’s allegations head-on for the first time under oath. Kardashian stated plainly: “His claim that I had a plan with my mother and others to release a sex tape, defraud the public, and file a ‘fake’ lawsuit against the porn company that released it to ‘create buzz’ is a lie”.
Jenner’s declaration carried raw emotional weight. “As a mother, the notion that I orchestrated or produced sex tapes involving my daughter or was in any way involved in the creation or distribution of any sex tapes, is not only entirely untrue but deeply offensive and harmful and has haunted me for decades,” she wrote. She added that she was “absolutely heartbroken, crushed and devastated as a mother to see my daughter in this situation where her most intimate and private moments were exposed to the world”.
Ray J isn’t buying any of it. In a fiery statement, the 45-year-old singer questioned the legal consequences of their filings. “Are Kim and Kris out of their f***ing minds? The fact of the matter is, if you lie like that under oath, don’t you go to jail? Don’t you get fined?”.
His attorney, Howard King, doubled down, telling Billboard that Kardashian’s statements “are demonstrably false and could subject her to criminal perjury prosecution” . King also took a swipe at Kardashian’s ongoing efforts to become a lawyer, noting: “If Ms. Kardashian is so concerned about demonstrating to the State Bar that she possesses the requisite moral character to be admitted to the Bar, when and if she passes the bar exam, she should not be committing perjury”.
Ray J’s mother, Sonja Norwood, entered the fray with a pointed Facebook post directed at Jenner. “I am no longer going to sit back and watch my son be ‘dogged’ on social media over this matter when Ray J and I, Kris and Kim, and many others know the truth,” she wrote.
Her question cut to the heart of the dispute: “And Kris, momager, you say you did not orchestrate the commercial release of the tape. Then who did?” . Norwood vowed to support her son “however long it takes” and “all the way to the doorstep of God’s judgment” if necessary.
According to Ray J, the public narrative is backwards. He claims he and Kardashian “consensually” filmed themselves having sex in Cabo San Lucas, and that the pair discussed releasing the tape together in 2006. He alleges Kardashian “insisted” that her mother “be in charge of the tape’s release and commercial exploitation” and that Jenner “watched” the original and a second tape filmed in Santa Barbara before they “collectively decided” to release the Cabo footage.
Ray J further claims that he and Kardashian were each paid $400,000 for three sex tapes, two made in Cabo and one in Santa Barbara. He alleges Jenner specifically instructed them to make the Santa Barbara tape “dirtier”.
The current battle began in October 2025, when Kardashian and Jenner sued Ray J for defamation over livestreams in which he suggested they were guilty of criminal racketeering. In September 2025, Ray J had gone on a livestream claiming federal authorities were investigating the family “for doing something worse than Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs”.
Ray J filed a countersuit in November 2025, alleging the Kardashians violated a settlement agreement barring any party from discussing the tape. He previously attempted to have Kardashian’s defamation lawsuit dismissed by arguing he was merely “trolling” and had even consulted ChatGPT for research, which told him his RICO case was “strong”.
For Kardashian, the stakes extend beyond this lawsuit. She has been working toward becoming a licensed attorney in California, and her declaration expressed concern that the ongoing controversy could jeopardize that goal.
For Ray J, the fight is personal and legacy driven. He told said that his two children with estranged wife Princess Love, daughter Melody and son Epik, “don’t deserve to grow up thinking their dad did something like revenge porn or hurt someone on purpose. That’s not the truth, and I’m not going to let that narrative follow them through their lives”.
Both lawsuits remain pending in Los Angeles court, with each side asking a judge to throw out the other’s claims. A hearing on Ray J’s anti-SLAPP motion to dismiss Kardashian’s defamation suit was held last week, and a ruling is expected soon.
