Singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, remains in police custody following his arrest during a performance in Owerri, Imo State. The arrest stems from allegations of cyberstalking his colleague, Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy (Damini Ogulu).

Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju, who is representing Speed Darlington, revealed that efforts to secure his bail have been unsuccessful. Taking to Facebook on Wednesday night, Adeyanju stated:

The Nigerian police brought our client Speed Darlington to Abuja from Owerri this evening and I just met him. They have refused to release him on bail over defamation of Burna Boy. Burna Boy, the Ojuelegba Fela sings about oppression but oppresses Akpi with the police.

The Allegations

Speed Darlington’s arrest reportedly centers on claims of defamation and cyberstalking Burna Boy. The details of the allegations remain unclear, but the case has sparked conversations about the use of police force in disputes between public figures.

Fans and activists have taken to social media, expressing mixed reactions to the incident, with some accusing Burna Boy of leveraging his influence to target Speed Darlington, while others demand due process for both parties.

As the situation unfolds, Speed Darlington’s legal team continues to push for his release, emphasizing concerns over free speech and the fairness of the arrest.
