Playboi Carti Finally Confirms I Am Music Release Date—And It’s Sooner Than You Think

After years of teasing, delays, and cryptic messages, Playboi Carti has officially set the release date for his highly anticipated album I Am Music. The Atlanta rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday (March 12) with a simple but powerful announcement: “Friday.” That means Carti fans will finally get their hands on the project tomorrow, March 14.

Carti’s Unconventional Announcement

Never one for a traditional rollout, Carti kept things as mysterious and chaotic as ever. Over on Instagram, he posted a bizarre video of a bald British man enthusiastically shouting:

“New Carti album this Friday!”

Beyond the date, however, details remain scarce—no official tracklist or cover art has been revealed yet.

Sticking (Sort Of) To His Promise

Carti originally promised the album would drop “no later than six months from September 12, 2024,” meaning he’s only two days off his self-imposed March 12 deadline. Given his history of pushing projects back indefinitely, this is practically early by Carti standards.

The I Am Music Hype Train

Carti has been teasing this album for years, but the rollout kicked into high gear recently:

• Through his Opium label’s Instagram, he called out Spotify, demanding the streaming giant “clear” his music.

• Spotify responded with hourglass emojis, signaling that the wait was almost over.

• Carti doubled down, promising that I Am Music has a “10/10 replay value.”

What Will I Am Music Sound Like?

While the album’s final sound remains a mystery, Grammy-winning producer Cardo hinted at a new subgenre of rap emerging from these sessions—something he and Carti call “burnt music.”

“We’ll be in the studio, like, ‘This music is burnt,’” Cardo explained.

The album reportedly draws inspiration from Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul and Juicy J, DJ Toomp, The Legendary Traxster, and even horror film composer John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing).

Is I Am Music Carti’s Most Experimental Album Yet?

Carti’s Rolling Loud Miami performance in December gave fans a taste of what’s to come, debuting several new tracks. If those songs are any indication, I Am Music could be his boldest, most chaotic, and genre-defying project yet.

With less than 24 hours to go, Carti fans better be ready to rage—because I Am Music is finally real.
