Jamar Goff, the foster son of Food Network star Ree Drummond, has been arrested in Birmingham, Alabama, on charges of assaulting a police officer and drug possession. Goff, 23, was booked into Jefferson County Jail on September 15 at approximately 2:30 a.m. local time and remains in custody on a $37,000 bond.
According to court documents, a University of Alabama at Birmingham police officer responded to a call about a suspicious person on campus and found Goff asleep near a fountain without a shirt. Goff allegedly told the officer he was waiting for someone to sell him “ice,” a street name for methamphetamine. After the officer discovered Goff had an outstanding felony failure-to-appear warrant, Goff allegedly fled on foot. When officers attempted to detain him near a medical facility, Goff reportedly struck a female officer in the chin with an open-handed palm strike. Police recovered a glass pipe and suspected methamphetamine from his backpack and person.
Drummond and her husband, Ladd, took Goff in as a foster son in 2018 when he was a teenager. He became close to the family through their sons, Bryce and Todd, and after a serious ATV accident on their ranch left him bedridden for weeks. Drummond wrote about fostering Goff in her 2020 book, Frontier Follies. “Jamar’s circumstances presented themselves to us in a way we couldn’t ignore,” she wrote . Drummond has not publicly commented on the arrest.
