Nigerian rapper Phyno, born Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, has shut down swirling rumors that he sold off his luxury real estate property in Lagos due to ethnic bias.
The buzz started after a blogger alleged that the rapper had sold his N1.4 billion estate, reportedly comprising 20 housing units, to an Arab buyer from Libya. The blogger claimed the Igbo-born musician described it as a “mistake” to invest in “Yoruba land,” allegedly citing tribalism as the reason for backing out.
The viral post read:
“Musician Phyno has allegedly sold off his 10 billion naira estate in Lagos to an Arab man. According to Phyno, it was a mistake building such an estate in Yoruba land, where he feels his people are not welcomed.”
But Phyno wasn’t having it.
Taking to Twitter (X) to clear the air, the rapper bluntly responded:
“You are a fool for cooking up this type of… Where are you heading with this? Anwu uta.”
“Anwu uta” roughly translates from Igbo as “die by arrow” — a local slang used to express intense anger or to call someone out for being malicious.
The Facts
Phyno’s estate was first revealed in 2023 by politician Ned Nwoko, who praised the rapper for his quiet, consistent success in real estate. Since then, Phyno has kept a low profile regarding the property until this rumor surfaced.
His sharp response serves not just as a denial, but also a strong stance against the ethnic division narrative being pushed online.
Public Reactions
Fans have rallied behind Phyno, with many applauding him for not only shutting down the tribalism claim but also for staying grounded despite his success. The rapper is known for his cross-cultural appeal, having collaborated with Yoruba and Hausa artists over the years.
Final Word
There’s no record or evidence of a sale, and Phyno remains the owner of the estate in question. For now, it’s clear: he’s not selling—and definitely not buying into tribal narratives.
