Phoebe Bridgers’ 32nd birthday didn’t go as planned. The singer-songwriter revealed on Wednesday that she was hospitalized with appendicitis, forcing her to cancel a string of intimate U.K. shows.
In a post shared to her Instagram Stories, Bridgers shared a photo of herself looking downcast in a hospital bed with an IV line in her arm. “I got appendicitis for my birthday,” she wrote alongside the snap. The diagnosis came around the time of her birthday on August 17.
The health scare meant Bridgers had to scrap her upcoming intimate U.K. performances, which included stops in Kingston, Brighton, and Bristol. She had just played two shows at London’s Union Chapel on her actual birthday. “Everything in the UK this week will have to move, but I’ll make it up to you!!!!” she promised fans. She also had to cancel a surprise album signing at London’s Rough Trade East.
The hospitalization comes just days after the release of her third solo album, Lost Weekend, on August 14. Bridgers had been celebrating the release with the intimate shows before a larger arena tour was set to begin in September.
