Former England football star Paul Gascoigne has been rushed to hospital and placed in intensive care after reportedly collapsing at his home over the weekend.
Found Semi-Conscious, Rushed to ICU
The 58-year-old ex-midfielder, affectionately known as Gazza, was discovered in a semi-consciousstate by his close friend and personal assistant Steve Foster, who immediately drove him to hospital. Upon arrival, Gascoigne was admitted to the intensive care unit and later transferred to an acute medical unit, where he is now said to be in stable condition.
In a statement to The Sun, Foster shared:
“Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now.”
He added that Gascoigne is overwhelmed by the outpouring of concern:
“[Paul] would like to thank everyone for the support he’s received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best.”
Years of Struggles Behind the Spotlight
Gascoigne has long battled with alcohol addiction and health issues, which have overshadowed his incredible sporting legacy in recent years. The scare comes just weeks after the football legend told The Mirror he was feeling more hopeful than ever:
“I feel better now than I have in years… I hope I am at a point that I can look back over everything I’ve gone through with a different, more positive, perspective.”
A New Chapter: ‘Eight’ Memoir Set for Release
The incident comes just ahead of the release of Gascoigne’s new autobiography, Eight, scheduled to hit shelves this autumn. Named after his iconic shirt number at Tottenham Hotspur, the memoir promises to be:
“Honest, raw, moving and ultimately uplifting.”
It marks his first major publication since My Story in 2005, with Gascoigne aiming to tell his life story with “unflinching honesty”.
A Football Legend With a Complicated Legacy
Paul Gascoigne is widely regarded as one of England’s most gifted footballers of his generation. During his career, he earned 57 caps for the national team and played for clubs including:
• Newcastle United
• Tottenham Hotspur
• SS Lazio
• Rangers
• Middlesbrough
• Everton
Yet, despite his brilliance on the pitch, his personal life often grabbed headlines—from numerous arrests, rehab stints, to his high-profile divorce from ex-wife Sheryl in 1998.
Fans Rally for Gazza
With Gascoigne expected to remain in hospital for several more days, fans and fellow footballers have flooded social media with well-wishes, hoping for a full recovery and a fresh start for the beloved star.
