Canadian singer PARTYNEXTDOOR has sparked controversy after taking shots at fellow Canadian artist Tory Lanez in a recent Instagram Live session.
The OVO Sound signee, who just scored his first-ever number one album with $OME $EXY $ONGS 4 U, previewed an unreleased track where he blatantly called out Tory Lanez, accusing him of copying his style.
During the live session, PARTY made it clear he had no interest in being friendly with certain artists. He said:
“I’m not y’all ngas friends… stop saying my name.”**
Shortly after, he played a snippet of the unreleased song where he sang:
“F*ck what Tory Lanez say… I’m running that / I did everything he did he’s just a running man… drama man… I’m the daddy let me slap you okay.”
The Believe It crooner also accused Lanez of mimicking his sound, adding:
“You said I sound like Young Thug, you sound like me. One day, you’ll be me…”
Why Is PARTYNEXTDOOR Dissing Tory Lanez?
The sudden beef appears to be connected to a recent statement Tory Lanez made from prison, where he praised the new albums from Drake, The Weeknd, and PARTYNEXTDOOR, but hinted that it was his turn to release music.
While Tory’s comment seemed harmless, it looks like PND took offense, especially with Lanez mentioning his name.
Drake’s Loyalty Could Make Things Messy
What’s more surprising is that Drake — PARTYNEXTDOOR’s label boss — has been vocal about supporting #FreeTory amid Lanez’s ongoing prison sentence.
Fans are now speculating that PND’s recent jab could stir up some drama within the OVO camp, especially since he’s currently promoting his new album featuring Drake.
Tory Lanez and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s History
The two artists have previously collaborated on the 2018 track “More Than Friends”, but their relationship seems to have soured in recent years.
With Lanez serving a 10-year sentence for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, it’s unclear if he will respond to PND’s diss anytime soon.
Do you think PARTYNEXTDOOR is reaching or does he have a point? 🤔
