One Direction fans may witness an emotional reunion at this year’s BRIT Awards as Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik are reportedly in talks to pay tribute to their late bandmate, Liam Payne. This would mark the group’s first performance together since their split in 2016.
The tribute comes after Liam tragically passed away on October 16, 2024, at the age of 31. He died after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The autopsy revealed that he suffered “multiple traumatic injuries,” leading to fatal internal and external hemorrhaging. Liam left behind his seven-year-old son, Bear, whom he shared with Cheryl, his former partner and X Factor judge.
According to a source, “The tribute to Liam at this year’s awards show has caused a real buzz and speculation that the remaining One Direction bandmates could finally come back together again on stage. It would be an entirely fitting way to honour Liam, and talks are already underway about how to make this segment of the BRITs unforgettable.”
In addition to the band’s potential reunion, other musicians are expected to contribute to the tribute, which is set to include performances, montages, and a live orchestra.
One Direction has a rich history with the BRIT Awards, having won seven awards since their formation on The X Factor in 2010. Liam’s love for the BRITs is well-documented, with insiders stating that he will “forever be part of the show’s history.”
Recently, Clevedon Pier, a memorable location where the band filmed parts of their “You & I” music video, unveiled a plaque in Liam’s memory. The plaque features the lyrics from the band’s song Walking in the Wind: “If you’re lost just look for me, you’ll find me in the region of the summer stars.”
While nothing is confirmed yet, fans are hopeful that this tribute will bring the iconic boy band together once more to honour Liam’s legacy.
