The countdown begins. Olivia Rodrigo just flipped the switch on her next era, blanketing Los Angeles in mysterious purple murals that have fans collectively losing their minds. After more than two years since her Grammy-nominated sophomore album GUTS, the 23-year-old pop powerhouse is finally ready to return. The new branding features a minimalist “OR” logo with a small heart at its center, painted across walls on Melrose Avenue and beyond. Her official website has also been updated with the same purple aesthetic, confirming this isn’t random street art, it’s the official launch of her third studio album OR3.

The color choice matters. Purple defined the visual identity of both SOUR and GUTS, but this iteration feels different. The logo has shifted from her previous punk-pop chaos into something sleeker, more refined. Critics and fans alike interpret the change as a signal of artistic evolution. The woman who broke records with “Drivers License” at seventeen is now twenty-three, and her sound is growing up right alongside her.

Rodrigo’s longtime collaborator and producer Dan Nigro dropped his own hint in late February, posting a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram with the caption “finishing records” . Rodrigo replied in the comments with perfect self-awareness: “The palpable stress in this photo hahahha”. The exchange confirmed what fans suspected, the album is in its final stages, with only finishing touches remaining before rollout .

February also brought an unexpected teaser of what OR3 might sound like. Rodrigo recorded a cover of The Magnetic Fields’ “The Book of Love” for the War Child charity album HELP(2). The track featured her singing with noticeably stronger, more mature vocals that sent fans into speculation overdrive. “Her voice omg,” wrote one X user. “SHE SOUNDS INCREDIBLEEEE OMG,” echoed another. The consensus: OR3’s vocals are going to be something entirely new.

The War Child collaboration ran deeper than a simple recording session. The music video for “The Book of Love” featured footage filmed by children in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, and Yemen, with Rodrigo providing only the soundtrack. She has previously spoken out about the devastation in Palestine, writing in July 2025 that “to give up on them is to give up on our shared humanity”. Producer James Ford praised her approach: “She was such a pro and was happy to take a gung-ho approach to it. She just walked into the studio and nailed it”.

Adding complexity to the rollout, some fans noticed that Rodrigo’s website briefly shifted from purple to red, with her butterfly emblem appearing in the new color. The singer wore red frequently during public appearances in mid-2025, including at Wimbledon. At her final GUTS World Tour show at Osheaga in Montreal, she wore a red T-shirt featuring a glittered number three before handing out her signature rings to fans . Whether red represents a separate project or a misdirect remains unclear, but the purple murals have now taken center stage.

The singer has been dropping breadcrumbs for months. In a promotional video for American Express released in October 2025, she casually mentioned: “Now I’m home, and I’m working on my new album”. She told ELLE she’s been experimenting with “new sounds” and “new stories,” calling the process “a really good time”. In a June 2025 interview, she explained her artistic philosophy: “As I just grow as a person, and I learn more about music, and I have different perspectives, it’s impossible for that not to be reflected in your songwriting”.

January 2026 marked five years since “Drivers License” changed everything. To celebrate, Rodrigo teamed with David Byrne for a special 7-inch vinyl release featuring Byrne’s cover of her debut single, backed with their live duet of “Burning Down the House” from Governors Ball. The release promised more reimagined SOUR covers from other artists in the months ahead.

No release date has been confirmed. No title beyond the fan-coined OR3. No tracklist. No singles. But the machine is clearly warming up. The murals are up. The website is updated. The producer says they’re finishing records. The fan accounts are posting “#OliviaIsComing”. All signs point to a rollout beginning any day now, with industry insiders predicting a lead single within weeks.

For the Livies who’ve waited since September 2023, the wait is almost over. Olivia Rodrigo
