Olivia Rodrigo and Robert Smith Hit New Chart Peak at #6

Olivia Rodrigo and Robert Smith have reached a new career milestone together. Their duet “What’s Wrong with me” has risen to a new peak of number six on the US Spotify chart, pulling in 1.34 million streams in a single day. The track also re-peaked at number nine on the Global Spotify chart with 3.66 million streams.

The song appears on Rodrigo’s third studio album, You seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, which dropped on June 12 via Geffen Records. The duet marks the first time another artist has appeared on a Rodrigo studio album, making the collaboration with The Cure frontman historically significant for the young singer-songwriter.

Rodrigo first performed the track live during a surprise set at Primavera Sound in Barcelona on June 7. She kept the feature guest a secret until Smith walked on stage mid-song, sending the crowd into a frenzy. After the first chorus, Smith appeared to take the second verse, and the pair finished the tender ballad together.

“This is the first feature I’ve ever done on an album, and I actually cannot believe I got to do it with Robert Smith,” Rodrigo wrote in a handwritten letter to fans after the performance. “Somebody pinch me!!! Robert has been soundtracking my life for as long as I can remember.”

The collaboration didn’t come out of nowhere. Smith and Rodrigo first performed together at Glastonbury 2025, where they played The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” and “Friday I’m in Love” during Rodrigo’s headlining set. Smith later revealed that he became a fan after hearing “Drivers License” and went on to buy both Sour and Guts.

“Although most of the songs on those two albums are not really ‘aimed at my demographic,’ they are all so good that it is hard not to fall in love with them,” Smith said in a March interview . The two spent “a couple of memorable nights in the studio” together, and the sessions ultimately produced “what’s wrong with me”.

The song itself is an upbeat, breezy pop track juxtaposed against devastating lyrics about realizing a relationship is failing. Rodrigo sings about spiraling, searching symptoms online, and being unable to get out of bed. Smith joins her on the second verse: “I keep looking for distractions / Hope the feeling passes / But I’ve got to say / It’s getting harder every day”.

The full album arrived with massive streaming numbers. Lead single “stupid song” debuted at number one globally with over 10 million streams, while all 13 tracks landed in the global top 20.

The Cure’s influence appears throughout the record, from the “Just Like Heaven” reference on “Drop Dead” to the song simply titled “The Cure”.
