Fiona Chernavskaya, the girlfriend of the late singer Oliver Tree, has spoken publicly for the first time since his tragic death in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Tree was one of six people killed when two helicopters collided on June 14. Chernavskaya took to social media with a heartfelt tribute and a plea for respect.
In her post, Chernavskaya set boundaries while mourning her partner. She pushed back against speculation about Tree’s personal life, describing their relationship as monogamous and intimate. She thanked those who sent kind words and encouraged others to show love to everyone affected by the tragedy. “Right now I’m mourning my partner and best friend; anything else is unimportant. Please have some respect,” she wrote.
Chernavskaya also shared a personal memory, revealing that Tree would often say during arguments: “If things don’t work out in this lifetime, you will find me in the next.” She ended her tribute by calling him her “best friend” and signing off with a nickname for him. Oliver Tree was 32 years old.
Tree’s ex-girlfriend, singer Melanie Martinez, also reacted to the news. She shared that she had been “an absolute wreck” since learning of the crash, saying it was difficult to process the sudden loss of someone she shared such a formative time of her life with . She remembered his contagious laugh and soft heart, adding that she knows he is “making the angels giggle”.
The collision occurred above an electric vehicle yard in Rio de Janeiro, with both helicopters bursting into flames and crashing to the ground. In addition to Oliver Tree, Argentine producer Lucas Vignale, YouTuber Gaspi, Lucas Brito Chaves, and pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac also died. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Tree had just performed in São Paulo days earlier as part of a global tour.
