Nick Cannon, the multitalented comedian, rapper, and father of 12, is shedding light on his mental health journey after being diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Speaking candidly at the Los Angeles Mission Thanksgiving charity event, Cannon revealed how this discovery has become a turning point in his life, prompting him to seek help and embrace therapy.

The Wild ‘N Out star explained that he had long suspected something was different about him, citing previous diagnoses of ADHD and dyslexia.

I kind of always wanted to get tested for it. I did a bunch of tests.I’m just a neurodivergent individual, and I kind of always knew.

NPD is a misunderstood condition often reduced to stereotypes about vanity or arrogance. However, Cannon emphasized the deeper reality of the disorder, which impacts how individuals view themselves and interact with others. According to the Cleveland Clinic, NPD involves traits like an excessive need for admiration, grandiosity, and sensitivity to criticism. It affects roughly 0.5% to 5% of the population, with men making up the majority of cases.

On his Counsel Culture podcast, Cannon admitted he displays many markers of the disorder but is determined to use his diagnosis as a tool for growth.

There’s so many labels out there, but it’s like, to be able to embrace it and say, ‘Look, I’m healing. I need help. Show me.

By opening up about his mental health struggles, Cannon is breaking the stigma and setting an example for others facing similar challenges. He’s committed to therapy and self-improvement, using his platform to advocate for mental health awareness.

I just embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way

Cannon said, adding that his diagnosis has become a journey of self-discovery and healing. His honesty is sparking important conversations about NPD and the importance of seeking support.

As Cannon continues his path toward healing, he hopes his story inspires others to prioritize their mental well-being, proving that even in the face of challenges, growth and understanding are always possible.
