The much-anticipated 22nd National Sports Festival, themed ‘The Gateway Games Ogun 2024’, originally slated for January 12th, has been postponed to May 16–30, 2025.
This decision was announced following the Joint Technical Meetings held in Abeokuta, Ogun State’s capital, on Thursday. The Secretary of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), Thecla Opara, explained that the rescheduling is essential to accommodate technical recommendations aimed at delivering a world-class event.
The revised timeline includes Zonal Eliminations for Team Sports, now scheduled for February 23–28, 2025. Stakeholders will receive updated information from the MOC Secretariat to align with the new schedule.
Addressing the media, Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission, emphasized the importance of thorough preparations to ensure the festival meets global standards.
The Gateway Games Ogun 2024 promises to be an unforgettable celebration of sports, albeit with a later start.
